The Mexican restaurant Las Catrinas revisited

One of the most requested restaurants for a recently revisited review was Las Catrinas Mexican Restaurant. The restaurant is in a busy part of town at 2330 N. Maize Road, but a bit hidden in the back. It’s not the most visible spot if you’re going down Maize, but definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

A small group of us dropped by at lunchtime to eat and drink. Our afternoon started with complimentary fries and salsa. Nothing memorable here, but also something that had no problem polishing up. It was a pretty basic salsa that was very mild.

Everyone ordered a mix of enchilada dishes but I opted for the chipotle pasta which was bow tie pasta with creamy guajillo sauce, bacon, onions, mushrooms and parmesan sauce . I added chicken, and it also came with a house salad that came with jalapeno ranch dressing.

Here are some other dishes, part-time. One thing I tasted was the beans. The only reason was because we talked about it at the table. I gave it a whirl and was impressed as well; it had a very smoky taste that was unlike any other bean I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant.

As for my chipotle pasta; excellent, excellent, excellent dish. It wasn’t something I expected to order at a Mexican restaurant, but they really nailed it here. The creamy guajillo sauce helped make this an exceptional dish. I loved the little but tasty heat shot in the sauce.

Each bite made me want to put more in my mouth. Las Catrinas is called a Tex-Mex restaurant in the description and it was, by far, one of the best dishes I’ve had from a Tex-Mex place.

The service was also outstanding. I believe a lady was the only server throughout the day and she was everything you would expect from a server.
