Opening of a new restaurant offering authentic Mexican cuisine in Middleburg | Don Johnson


La Catrina Tacos & Tequila Bar, 2710 Blanding Blvd., recently opened in Middleburg on Saturday, October 15

This is a new location for La Catrina, which also operates a restaurant in St. Augustine.

La Catrina specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine “bringing you a bit of home cooking and street food,” according to the website. The restaurant operates 7 days a week, opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. (closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays). The restaurant is located in the same mall as Winn-Dixie.

The restaurant offers authentic Mexican dishes, including Tacos Lengua (beef tongue), as well as the usual Tex-Mex dishes. Entrees include Ceviche Mixto (shrimp and octopus cooked with onions and jalapenos in lime juice and topped with avocado) and stuffed jalapeno poppers.

Desserts include flan, churros and sopapillas (fried pastries).

The restaurant also offers a variety of fruit margaritas.

Early online reviews of the restaurant have been good.
