A new Mexican restaurant has found a home at Big White Ski Resort in place of a business that closed after refusing to follow public health orders.
Cantena del Central opened a location at the ski resort on Dec. 17, at Charley Victoria’s former All Day Apres location, Big White restaurant manager Chris Stokes said.
Charley’s closed permanently last year after being fined by WorkSafeBC for hosting a party in violation of COVID-19 public health orders.

This will be the Cantena’s third location, and it has been well received so far, Stokes said.
“I know the space was available and I think the property jumped at the chance…I know the band is looking to expand to other locations, so I’m not sure exactly how Big White came about, whether it fell in their lap or something they’ve been looking for for a while, but they’re definitely interested in any new location they can find,” he said.
The restaurant has all the “ski bum essentials” with a late night happy hour from 9 p.m. to close and After from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Street tacos and margaritas are always a popular choice for Cantina, he said.
For starters, he recommends the habanero coconut margarita and trying any combination of tacos.
“You can’t go wrong with any of our tacos,” Stokes said.
The plan is to be on the Big White site for a long time as the owners have purchased the space, he said.
