When it came time to open a new business, Oscar Contreras knew downtown Logansport was the place to be.
Yummy Mi Camino Real, 121 S. 6th St., a new Mexican restaurant, is across from Black Dog Legacy and near the Science Project, businesses Contreras admires.
He is no stranger to Logansport. His previous business, Mi Camino Real, had been open for nine years.
Contreras has seen downtown Logansport change over the past two years. He said it was common to see the area close around six in the evening most nights. Now, with help from neighbors and businesses like Bonus Pints, life is returning to the area.
He said customers walked into the new business and were either surprised to see it or asked for it.
“I’m still Oscar,” he said. “I’m still here.”
The new company opened its doors on Thursday, October 6th.
He said business had been encouraging in the first week, especially since they hadn’t done much promotion yet.
The restaurant offers authentic Mexican dishes and Contreras shared a few of his favorite dishes.
He recommended the Especial! Yummy Pineapple, which includes chicken, beef, shrimp, tomatoes and peppers, onions, rice and beans topped with melted cheese. There is also the Burritos Logan with two burritos with grilled steak, mushrooms and onions covered in cottage cheese and topped with lettuce, sour cream, cheese and tomatoes. The Especial Marquez contains carne asada and chicken breast with grilled onions, peppers and tomatoes and comes with salad, pico de gallo, sour cream and tortillas. It is served with special chili, rice and beans.
Starting Monday, October 17, they will have a breakfast menu. Breakfast will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Yummy Mi Camino Real also offers a variety of milkshakes.
Contreras hoped to build relationships with local business owners as well as those who work at the nearby Logansport Memorial Hospital, eventually helping doctors and nurses by delivering their meals.
Contreras encouraged Logansport to stop by and enjoy the family environment, food and good service.
