Community support rises for Mexican restaurant destroyed by fire

Community support is growing for the Martinez family who lost their popular restaurant to a fire earlier this month.

Their family restaurant, Aby’s Mexican Restaurant, has been a Jersey Shore staple since May 2002 when it opened, offering some of the best Mexican food in the area.

A month away from their 20th anniversary, tragedy struck. Several firefighters intervened at Aby’s at 32, rue Mian in Matawan around 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5.

This GoFundMe page was organized by Bryan Zakutansky to help with some of the costs associated with the fire.

“As you can imagine, the family is now devastated by the loss of their pride and joy. With the restaurant being their main source of income and supporting their family for twenty years, there is a long way to go,” wrote Zakutansky.

“We hope this fundraiser will help overcome the sudden and unexpected financial hardship the Martinez family has experienced as a result of this loss.”

Donor Dena Orfanitopoulos commented, “Sending love! We always enjoy our meals at Aby’s. You will come back stronger!!”
