It’s the season for terraces and products, friends. There’s no better way to kick off the summer than with Birmingham’s hottest openings, including a new Mexican restaurant and fresh produce stand. Let’s dive in, okay?
1. Fuddruckers | Vacuum
Alright, y’all. Fuddruckers is back at The Galleria! After being one of the Galleria’s first tenants in 1986, they finally left after just a decade. With this new location finally open, they will officially be the only location in Alabama.
In case you are unfamiliar with this burger joint, they serve specialty burgers and steak fries. I personally grew up with this place and the best part of Fuddruckers is the nacho cheese on tap, similar to ketchup containers. The best dip, hands down. The new location is slated to open this summer, just in time for that summer bite after shopping.
2. The Woolley Institute for Spoken Language Education (WISE) | Highland Stream
The Woolley Institute for Spoken-Language Education (WISE) just opened its site in Brook Highland last week. You wonder what they are doing? I’m glad you asked! WISE is a local non-profit organization dedicated to “educating, supporting and empowering children who are deaf or hard of hearing, children who have speech and language delays, and children who have hearing and typical languages and their families so that wise ears become wise minds” (wise4al.org)
They offer everything from early intervention programs to therapy and school outreach to make a difference in the lives of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Head over to their website to check it out today.
3. Jones Valley Teaching Farm 2022 Farm Booth | Downtown
Jones Valley Teaching Farm kicks off the season with their 2022 Farm Stand. Located in their downtown facility, they believe everyone should have access to fresh produce and quality food, no matter their circumstances. Therefore, all products and seeds are 100% free – instructions provided on site.
All produce is grown locally on the farm and replenished weekly – no shortage here. This initiative is made possible by local and national organizations such as the American Heart Association, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the Jefferson County Commission and the USDA.
4. Las Mesas Mexican Canteen | chelsea
Taco Tuesday is about to get a whole lot more exciting at Chelsea. Everyone, meet Las Mesa Mexican Cantina. Owned by Ann Gancayco and her husband, the same couple behind Habaneros in Chelsea, this new spot is where they’ve been dreaming of for 20 years.
They’re excited to continue building a reputation for top-notch service while adding fun new menu items like La Papa Loca, a Mexican take on a loaded potato and street tacos, according to a 280Living article. .
The grand opening is scheduled for mid-May, and you know we’ll be there celebrating, margarita in hand.
5. The Dog Nanny Grooming Salon | Hills of Vestavia
There’s a new pet sitter in town. Good kind of. Professional dog groomer Felicia Weston has operated The Dog Nanny for more than four years as her side jostles before taking it on full time and opening her salon in April. This cage-free, appointment-based salon will allow your dog to feel relaxed and pampered while they receive one-on-one treatment. Dog Nanny services include bathing up to full haircut, teeth brushing and massage. They also offer a shedding treatment which is really important when the weather warms up.
Felicia mentions that dog grooming is a family affair.
“My mother had a grooming salon in Fairhope and that’s how my sister and I became interested in dog grooming. My sister, Athena, grooms with me part-time… At Dog Nanny Grooming Salon, we pride ourselves on our patience and respect throughout the process of grooming your dog. We do everything in our power to provide the least stressful environment possible and we are very grateful to love what we do.
