Fifth group restaurantsthe company behind Alma Cocina, is now in the process of hiring an almost entirely new staff, and has done some kitchen renovations and sprucing up its dining room.

Alma Cocina downtown has temporarily closed the space due to low traffic in the area. That has now changed since businesses and conventions are returning to pre-pandemic levels.

“The food courts there were empty, and the offices were empty and even the hotels were empty during the week. So it didn’t make much sense [to reopen] for a certain time,” Robby Kuklerpartner of Fifth Group Restaurants, told the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Fifth Group Restaurants has brought back its Buckhead location in mid-2020, along with several of its other restaurants. The company continued to pay the rent for the downtown space with revenue from these other businesses.

“It’s been a two-year evolution,” Kukler told What Now Atlanta. “We had a lot of help and cooperation from our owner.”

The downtown Alma Cocina will reopen on April 30.
