A Mexican restaurant caught fire Saturday morning in Avery County.
According to the Linville Volunteer Fire Department Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Linville firefighters were dispatched to assist Banner Elk with a report of smoke coming from the roof of a commercial structure. The first units to arrive discovered thick black smoke coming from the roof area. Within minutes, as more trucks and personnel arrived, a fire broke out on the roof and the flames rapidly escalated.
A countywide page was dispatched and units from across Avery County arrived to assist. The fire was extinguished and most of the fire damage was limited to the cosmetic elements of the roof.
The fire never penetrated inside the structure. the building is not a total loss and tenants are expected to resume operations as soon as the smoke damage can be mitigated.
