A brand new Mexican food unit opens in Sheffield’s Kelham Island selling burritos and nachos – including a popular BBQ pulled pork

Ryan Cox and Alex Lewus launched El Burrito Box during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2021.

After doing the same kind of work for a while, the couple decided to start a new project with a food unit, and they are now opening their very first permanent unit in Krynkl, Kelham Island.

Ryan Cox, Manager of El Burrito Box, said: “We have a good engineer friend who wanted to create a mobile food unit as a project, and it went really well. So we decided to team up, he created the unit and took it from us as a mobile food unit, and from there it was very successful and grew, which means it makes sense to open a permanent unit.

Sheffield locals Ryan and Alex have used their mobile catering unit mainly for Sheffield-related events and have done business on Kelham Island before and, according to Ryan, El Burrito Box has already proven popular in the region.

Moving permanently to Krynkl, Kelham Island, Ryan added: “It’s great, Krynkl is like its own little micro economy of different places and does some really decent things – I think it’s a place really interesting and I can see it being quite lively.

They serve “authentic Mexican flavor,” including burritos, nachos, and churros, with the most popular item “by far” according to Ryan being the barbecued pulled pork, which is served with homemade cheese sauce.

El Burrito Box opened in Krynkl, Kelham Island on Friday September 2nd.
